Fatal Accident Near Wiley Ford
 

A multi-vehicle accident on Route 28 at Miltenberger Straight has taken the life of Freda Shoap. The West Virginia State Police, along with other emergency personnel, responded to the accident at approximately 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Other drivers involved in the crash include Venus Kidwell and Richard Wagoner. Ms. Kidwell was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, while Mr. Wagoner did not require medical attention. The official cause of the crash has not been determined and remains under investigation.

 
Hot Weather Suspected in Fish Kill
 

Hot weather may have contributed to the deaths of about 500 fish at Deep Creek Lake. The Maryland Department of the Environment is theorizing that high temperatures may have warmed the surface of the water, and may have created ideal conditions for an infestation of parasitic microorganisms that affect the gills of certain cold water fish. Yellow perch, walleye, small mouth bass and northern pike were most affected. Officials will know for sure, what caused the kill, in a couple of weeks.

 

 Pines Restaurant Fire Ruled Arson

 

The fire last month that destroyed the Pines Restaurant in Keyser, and damaged several other businesses, has been ruled arson. The fire, which originated in the restaurant, heavily damaged the Wee Care Day Care Center and CitiFinancial. In total, about $2 million in damage was done. A reward of up to $12,500 is being offered for information that would lead to an arrest.

 
Commissioners Appoint Kahl to Public Works Position
 

The Allegany County Commissioners have appointed Paul Kahl as the new Director of Public Works, replacing Steve Young, who retired in May. Since then, Kahl has been the acting director. Young accumulated 35 years of service to the county.

 
Sheriff’s Department Suspending License Renewals
 
Mineral County Sheriff Craig Fraley has announced that his office will be suspending license renewal sales, as of August 1st. The West Virginia DMV is not sending out renewal notices to all citizens, and without a renewal card, it cannot be processed. Citizens wishing to renew tags should either mail their renewals to Charleston or go directly to the Department of Motor Vehicle Offices in Romney or Moorefield.
